As non-profits grow and expand, I think sometimes they lose focus of their core mission and where they started. It is great to expand and add new services with the funds you raise, but never lose touch with what got you there.
I have seen non-profits grow and improve their offerings. They add new employees who bring great ideas and add many new directions to the table. These additions can be wonderful in helping the cause, but can also lead you away from your intentions and misdirect the core focus.
Just as with any organization, I think it is essential to step back regularly and make sure that the mission is defined and solid. Keeping focused on the goal can help sustain and improve everything your non-profit has to offer.
